                                              Simulation Equipment

                                              Clinical Simulation Mannequins
A variety of simulation equipment is available to assist participants in becoming immersed in an activity and enrich the simulation experience. Simulation staff are available to assist in choosing the best equipment for a specific activity based on learning objectives and experience level of the participant; features and limitations of specific mannequins and task trainers are taken into account during the selection process.
Mannequins:  Eleven computerized full-body mannequins from Gaumard, Laerdal, and METI; available in adult, pediatric, and infant sizes.
Task Trainers:  A variety of physical models designed for a specific task: i.e. central line placement, thoracentesis, & intubation.
Virtual Reality Trainer:  A complex trainer that incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic components.
A simulation activity may combine more than one modality and may be utilized with an actor.  A task trainer may be used with an actor or with a mannequin in order to provide the best experience.

                                              Realism

                                              Medication Dispense
The appropriate level of realism or fidelity  is determined and implemented for simulation activities. Both equipment and scenario design impact fidelity. Types of fidelity include:
                                                   Physical
                                                   Functional
                                                   Environmental
                                                   Psychological or perceptual
To increase fidelity, participants may have access to electronic or paper medical records, a medication dispensing system (pictured at left),  and a variety of clinical equipment.  Moulage techniques (i.e. makeup) and accessories are also utilized to enhance realism.

                                              Clinical Supplies

                                              Picture
To enhance realism, clinical equipment is available for use during simulation activities including:
                                              • Fully stocked code II carts & defibrillators
                                              • Basic & advanced airway equipment
                                              • Patient care items
                                              • Hemodynamic monitoring, IV supplies

Our mission is to improve health and patient safety through simulation-based programs designed to maximize the abilities of individuals, teams and systems.
